I understand this doesn’t look that great—honestly, I think I’m just not very good at writing prompts for the video generator—but I wanted to share it because this is the best I could get. I had to use ChatGPT to get a result that looked acceptable. This is a video of Manannán mac Lir playing the harp. The swans in the background are a reference to a very famous Irish folktale called “The Children of Lir,” a tale about four children of the Irish sea god Lir who are placed under a terrible curse, forced to live as swans and tormented for centuries by the harsh elements of nature. Lir eventually dies of heartbreak due to the situation. “Manannán mac Lir” translates to “Manannán, son of Lir,” so it has become a common misconception that the Lir in the story is the same as Manannán’s father. In truth, there is no evidence of this being the case, with The Children of Lir being a much more recent story introduced to Ireland after the arrival of Christianity. Still, the story is so famous in Ireland that I decided to adapt it into my own version of Manannán. “How would Manannán feel about losing his younger siblings and father to such a terrible curse?” was the question I wanted to explore. Apologies for writing such a long description, and thanks to anyone who actually read all of this, haha.
